Today is one of those days I really have to ask myself if I know what I’m doing. We have just heard that our friend, a Finnish lady, has died today in a plane crash in Central Tanzania. Her husband and two children (1 and 3 yrs of age) accompanied her on the flight but survived. The other week, a project evaluator of FPCT (our partnership church) died in a plane crash in Southern Tanzania. Last summer, Sirkku’s old class-mate died in a car accident here in Dar es Salaam. During the past half a year, I have witnessed dozens of more tragic car accidents than any of the ones I have seen in Finland. Taking into consideration the amount we travel as a family, or I alone, it could have easily been one of us. Once again, all I can do is send a prayer upstairs whenever sitting behind the steering wheel before hitting the road, waiting for lift-off on the runway, waiting for departure on the deck of the ship, or sitting next to the bed before going to sleep, as I silently whisper out: “God, You know what we are doing here. Once again, all I can do is leave my family in Your hands.”
Good night, Daniel

There isn’t a more honest prayer than the one whispered quietly, with wavering voice. Our days have been layed out before Him, and as much as we love the ones we leave behind when called….He loves them so much more. All is well.
As you sleep, let us watch. We have your backs.
You ARE in His Hands. You are. All of you.
We love you.

Sirkku or Danny please email me.
I really need to know what happened..
Joo, muistakaa, että teillä on paljon esirukoilijoita täällä ja eri puolilla maailmaa. Taivaan Isän rauha ja lepo teille perheenä.

I woke up at 4.30 am last night for no apparent reason. Then I read your post. Afterwards I couldn’t sleep for an apparent reason. I am really sorry.
Somehow I grieve over your friend’s death more than I thought I would. I guess that visiting you in Tanzania was such a great experience — which necessarily (by nature) involves great people — that it touched my soul in a deeper (non-turistic) way.
In addition to Mami and Isi and Sussu and many more others, I also provide artillery support.
Bariki,
Baba mkubwa Jason
By the way, you probably know already that the death of your friend has been on all the news in Finland today.
I want you guys home. Be blessed, safe and lots of love from us. C, S and J Rose
Hi Danny and family
You have been on mind and I hope you are enjoying doing the great work you are involved in out there in Tanzania.
You came to mind after hearing the sad news about the plane crash. So sorry you’ve lost too many friends so tragically. Go carefully. I am hoping to fly out to east Africa (Zimbabwe) for a few weeks later this year to work with the Dzikwa Trust and the Aids orphans they support, so I’ll finally get a taste of the Africa you’ve talked about
Love to you all
